[1930-1945]. - This is a photograph of the crypt that will serve as the Gaspé's second church until 1969. Following the fire that destroyed the first church, Bishop Fançois-Xavier Ross worked on the construction of a second stone church in Gaspé, which would be ready for the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Jacques Cartier in the peninsula, in 1934. Unfortunately, the economic crisis that followed the 1929 Krach bogged down the project, and it soon became clear that it couldn't be realised. At the base of the church represented in this picture, we can see a stone base, a sign that the construction of the Gaspé's second stone church was well underway.
