1934. - After the Gaspé Cathedral burned down in 1929, Archbishop François-Xavier Ross developed the Basilica-Souvenir project, according to the plans of architect Pierre Lévesque.

However, the economic crisis has greatly hampered the fundraising campaign.

Instead of the imposing building, for many years, Catholic parishioners had to make do with a simple crypt. The current cathedral was completed in 1969. Mandatory reference: Musée de la Gaspésie. Cornelius Brotherton Fund . P141/1/1/6/39.
